Upgrading of provincial roads for Eastern Cape Government

Global Civils has entered into a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the Eastern Cape Provincial Government’s Department of Roads for the construction and upgrading of provincial roads in Coffee Bay, Peddie and Mount Ayliff.

Upgrading of community roads
at Marula Platinum Mine

Global Civils awarded a contract for the construction of community roads at the Marula Mine in the Steelpoort area. The contract provides for the fast track construction of much needed access roads in the area using natural soil stabiliser. The solution has proved to be extremely effective in poor funding conditions consisting of notorious poor cotton clay (natural CBR<2).

Haul roads at Kieprsol Mine

A coal export mine under construction in the Piet Retief area is connected to a Provincial Road by an unsurfaced road (some 17 kms) which is subject to storm damage and flooding. Interlink trucks with a payload of 60 tons use this road for continuous hauling (a fleet of some 15 trucks) of coal to the Piet Retief railhead on the Richards Bay Coal Export rail. Jindal Mining Africa commissioned GCS to design a road which in the initial stages will be stabilised but unsurfaced with the intention to tar the roadway once the cash flow from this mine is self-sufficient.

Anglo Platinum

Footprint established in the ANGLO Group with the construction of haul and access roads at Twickenham Platinum mine. More work is expected from the group as the final results for this project have tested positively, achieving CBR’s in excess of 150. We are now a fully registered vendor for Anglo Platinum.

Moses Mabhida Stadium

A hardstand platform to support an 800-ton crane was required for the construction of the stadium arch. The original design called for the importing of a selected G5 aggregate to prepare a platform to accommodate the movement and operation of the crane, a procedure estimated to take 8 weeks with frequent rain-induced delays. Global Civil Solutions proposed an elegant and innovative alternative; stabilizing a stockpile of in situ Umgeni sand, earmarked for blending in the bulk earthworks, with ANSS to a depth of 30cm instead.

Dihlabeng Town Council Bethlehem

Construction of township roads in Central Free State for the Dihlabeng town council. Work has been carried out by our subcontractors in conjunction with local BEE companies in the region. We look to a continued successful relationship with the local authority of Dihlabeng.

Angofret Angola

Construction and stabilising of two railway platforms in Lobito and Huambo. Use of the ANSS stabiliser in the platform construction has effected savings for the client of up to 40%.
